I didnt complete reading this Shoba. I saw the title and kept saying 'don't go there' but I did. A couple of months back I would never have gone there. Never read an animal book, never watch an animal movie. Have spent half a lifetime skirting these things. Now, I do these kinds of things in some vain hope that the common and universal nature of this scoured feeling might assuage. It doesn't. After a couple of lines, I flee.
To retrace my steps to our beloved animals - Our dog Kittu short for Krishnamurthy left us two decades back in my first terrified brush with this state. I can still feel him elbowing for space on the sofa, for what he thought was a well deserved rest, after some ridiculous game with a ball and a head dunk in his water bowl; jowls dripping ropes of stringy water in grand unconcerned abandon on my lap. I can feel his thick mane. His nose- wet and dry. I can scratch the back of his ears even now. We have such tactile relationships with our animals; our hands don't forget, let alone the mind.
She has crossed into the divine Shoba. She is above this ephemeral world. She has overcome suffering and will never know it again. She will look after you and yours Shoba. She did it then, she will now.

Thank you, Menkris. Perhaps, as you say, the jasmine strings will take on a "haute" avatar. Rs. 3000 is at the high end of things in a city like Bangalore. A bouquet at your corner shop costs half that.

Lovely post Shoba & thanks for the read. Just discovered your blog (I am a stumbling amateur in these cyber realms). Congratulations on a good job! You've got some fine reads here for languid afternoons.
Back to your post on flowers; apart from the adornment (Shringara) that you write about; there is also the sense of the aesthete. The Indian way of stringing flowers into short garlands is most suitable for the Sari. I am sure I would look hideous in a pant suit with copious cascades of jamine on my nape. For that matter, even a salwar kameez as worn by the throng (not celebrity style voluminous anarkalis) would probably look a little ridiculous with garland bedecked hair. Unless some fashion types show us how to do it; my sensibilites crawl at the imagery. And so, just like the humble sari has now also moved into unrecognizable versions of haute evening dress; gossamer versions of these flower garlands will probably transition along in, seeing that their combination is so easy on the eyes.
PS: Does it really cost 3000Rs for a 'nice' bouquet!? I'd think I'd get me some 'exotic' for that!

Ma’am,To aewnsr the first question – Since the course was quite free flowing, in my opinion it is better not to have a specific name like Art of Schmoozing or Networking. ‘The good life’ or ‘Beyond business’ are appropriate names for the course. One humble suggestion – The course could be a little more detailed. For example, the section on watches was merely a lot of brand names. I was wondering if it could be just a bit more than that. However, the lectures on wine and table setting etiquetters were quite informative. Also, your idea about having presentations on different potential conversation topics is brilliant. One more observation regarding the session about holding a conversation with you and talking 3 things about ourselves – just half the students got a chance to introduce themselves and have some sort of feedback from you.

I enjoyed your book very much. I am American but my husband is from South India, Chennai and he has talked about his grandmother in the village. Reading the beginning of your book really made me feel like I was reading about his family. It was very special to me. I'd like to write a post about the book on my blog, Amor y Sabor (www.amorysabor.com).

Thank you!
