What a great line in FT’s writer interviews
The person interviewed was Patrick Ness, children’s book writer. Now I have to read Sula by Toni Morrison.
What book do you wish you’d written?
It’s a part of a book. The closing line of Toni Morrison’s Sula: “It was a fine cry – loud and long – but it had no bottom and it had no top, just circles and circles of sorrow.” I’d give my right arm to have written that.
Thanks for posting this Shoba. I will now read Toni Morrison after your must-read recommendation. I loved the closing line of Sula, just like you did! I have tried getting my hands on ‘A Space Of Her Own’ but it is not available in Chennai. Will try through IndiaReads – an online Library cum Bookstore based in Noida.
Should check out India Reads. Thanks.
