Column: The Good Life: for Mint Lounge
Book Trailer
I made this promo video, which in a sense was about as hard as writing the book itself. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl5XX3KsYhA&w=560&h=315] Click here for Vimeo and here for the Youtube version.
Washington Independent Review of Books
In The Milk Lady of Bangalore, Narayan artfully chronicles her adventures into the world of bovine divinity and shares what she’s learned about how cows are woven into the fabric of Hindu culture. This book will teach readers everything they’ve ever wanted to know about the importance of cows in Indian society.
The TNB Self Interview: very cool idea
The literary website The Nervous Breakdown is interested in having you conduct a “self-interview,” in which you answer questions you’ve always wanted to be asked but haven’t been.
Book Page's Book of the Day. Yay!
Which book lover doesn't love libraries? The idea and the reality. In India, my library visits are limited to Neev School library and all my neighborhood lending libraries-- Just Books, Bangalore Club, etc. But Book Page is a glorious tribute to this idea. So thank you for choosing my book as the Book of the Day. Book Page Review Published since 1988, BookPage is a 32-page, monthly book review distributed through more than 4,000 public libraries and bookstores nationwide (see our subscribers). ---------- Forwarded message ----------From: Amy Gash Date: Fri, Feb 9, 2018 at 3:25 AMSubject: Fw: Book of the Day: The Milk [...]
Thank you, Oprah!
The real reason you'll love this book is the author herself: a woman so curious, funny and self-deprecating that she is able to show us—delightfully—how the past informs our future.
Real Simple magazine– thank you
I have been reading Real Simple forever. In the hopes that my life and home will become, like Marie Kondo, full of objects that give joy, or become Real Simple. So I was thrilled when a writer got in touch about my book. Thank you for the plug

In which I try to sound witty for Book Page
Thank you Alice Carey for the Q&A with me. My only regret is that I didn't, ahem, milk the whole Buffalo, New York line. I came up with Buffalo, New York as an example quite unconsciously. But heck, it would have been nice to add something like "I mean, how can you sit in Buffalo, New York, and compete for family approval with a cousin who has gone and bought a cow?" and then, one beat later, "I mean, you can say that she may have bought a cow but I live in a city named after a larger bovine." [...]
Thank you Book Riot.

Plugging a book
Like most everyone, I am in two minds about "marketing" my book. On the one hand, I get that it is necessary and the done thing. On the other, I get that it is a bit much to plug the book everyday. It feels like tooting your own horn which isn't nice. But Algonquin makes it so easy for me. Everyday, I get one or two things from the publicity folks there. It is one step to post it on my personal blog which then automatically "shares" to Twitter, Facebook, etc. For a while, I started a separate "books" page [...]
